I went to the same place 3 weeks in a row and found 3 different darners.  This is a Variable Darner Aeshna interrupta.  While looking this guy up in my book I came across the Spatterdock Darner.  The name got stuck in a loop in my head and stayed there all day!

Just to show you how jaded I've become, I caught a dragonfly the other day but it was only a Shadow Darner.  Only a Shadow Darner!  You should have seen how excited I was to catch the first one!  Next year I'm gonna catch one of those Spatterdock Darners... agghh there it is back in my head, Spatterdock....spatterdock   spatterdock...
