One day in May, Pam and I went to one of my favorite ponds and
saw hundreds of toads in the pond mating. Sadie had a ball chasing them back into the pond when they dared to get up
on shore. Check out her attempt.
6 weeks later I want back and found the ground literally covered
with these tiny toadlets.

Who needs silhouettes of elephants on the African Plains when we have giant flies right here in Central New York?

I am fascinated by ants ( as long as they are not in or almost in my house, or for that matter, touching
me). I at first thought the ants were growing fungus on this branch. I later found out that they are tending Wooly
Aphids. The aphids secrete a sugery substance commonly called honey dew and the ants feed on the honey dew and protect
the aphids from mauraders. The white "wool" is also excreated from the bodies of the aphids and is used for protection
from predators. It is apparently distasteful. (and no, I do not know from personal experience)
